NOTICE: The Impact of Foreign and International Law on National Legal Systems

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Swiss Institute of Comparative Law (SICL), the SICL has organised, in cooperation with the International Association of Legal Science, the Swiss Society of International Law and the Swiss Society of Legislation, a conference to be held on 26 and 27 April 2012 entitled:

The Impact of Foreign and International Law on National Legal Systems:
Comparisons in Legal Development

The event aims to analyze, from a comparative perspective, the factors which influence or have influenced reforms in different legal systems and to link them with the impact of these reforms. Ideally, this analysis will identify factors which encourage the success of reforms, depending on the context of each reform. Emphasis will be placed on the role of international law, as well as on the use of comparative law in this process. The subject will be considered in general terms but also by looking closely at certain fields of law such as human rights, environmental law and commercial law. In the course of this analysis, legal orders which follow different traditions (such as continental law, Asian law, African law, common law) will be taken in consideration.

In addition to the participation of our members at the SICL (Lukas Heckendorn Urscheler and Martin Sychold), another member (Lihong Zhang) will speak and an Advisory Board Member (Patrick Glenn) will also participate.
